چکیده

The classification and mapping of habitats in Wadden Sea areas is an important issue of marine monitoring. In the framework of a German research project, we investigate different modern remote sensing data for this task. In this paper, our focus is on the potential of airborne laser scanning data for the classification. Therefore, we use Conditional Random Fields (CRF), a probabilistic supervised classification approach capable of modelling context. We classify the laser scanning point cloud into the three object classes water, mudflat, and mussel bed. For the distinction of different surface types we analyse crucial classification features based on the geometry and the intensity of the backscatter. We then learn typical structures in a training step and combine local descriptors with context information in a CRF framework. We evaluate our approach on a test site of the German part of the Wadden Sea and show classification results of multispectral and SAR data which we intend to combine for a marine monitoring concept.

Monitoring and Change Detection of Wadden Sea Areas Using Lidar Data

In coastal areas morphological changes of various kinds are caused by tidal flows, storms, climate change, and human activities. For these reasons a recurrent monitoring becomes necessary in order to detect undesired changes at early stages enabling rapid countermeasures to mitigate or minimize potential harm or hazard. The morphology of the terrain can be represented by highly precise digital ...

Change Detection in Wadden Sea Areas Using Rapideye Data

The tidal areas of the oceans are important transition zones between terrestrial and marine ecosystems. In contrast to the non-marine surface of the earth, access to the tidal lands such as the Wadden Sea along the North Sea coast is often difficult. For this reason, remote sensing offers important monitoring tools. In this study, a new change detection approach is presented, adapted to the Wad...

Supervised classification of water regions from lidar data in the Wadden Sea using a fuzzy logic concept

The Wadden Sea is an almost untouched area with a size of about 7300 km along the German, Dutch and Danish coast. Because of tide the area is flooded two times a day, creating a very special and sensitive ecosystem. In order to protect the Wadden Sea up-todate Digital Terrain Models (DTM) of high accuracy are needed to detect morphological changes. Lidar is an adequate method to obtain an accur...
